ABOUT RYTHER CENTER FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH – MAIN CAMPUS
Ryther Center for Children and Youth provides treatment for children and adolescents dealing with mental health and co-occurring substance abuse disorders. The center, located in Seattle, Wash., provides inpatient services for children and adolescents and outpatient services for adolescents. Ryther Center also offers autism assessments and diagnosis.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Ryther Center’s inpatient treatment begins with an assessment to develop an individualized plan. The center blends evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), and dialectic behavioral therapy (DBT) with experiential activities like yoga and art.
The inpatient program for youth ages six to 14 includes group and family therapy, medication management, and K-8 special education instruction. Parenting classes for loved ones is also offered.
Outpatient treatment for adolescents (13 to 17) dealing with substance abuse and dual diagnosis includes individual counseling, education regarding the effect of drugs on the developing brain, and toxicology screenings.

Ryther Center employs adult and child psychiatrists and psychologists, master’s level therapists, cottage counselors, mental health and substance abuse counselors, and behavioral health technicians
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
Ryther Center’s 10-acre campus hosts three “home-like facilities” where clients will share family-style meals and reside in private bedrooms. Each cottage can accommodate 12 residents. Visiting family members can reside in an on-site Family Center.
Clients can enjoy recreational fields, a climbing wall, nature trails, a challenge course, and three vegetable gardens. Ryther’s outpatient facility was recently renovated.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
The sole alum responding to a Best-rehabs.com poll to date indicated that treatment was effective, but Ryther could improve some of its services. The anonymous alum gave perfect five-star ratings to family participation and the facility’s cleanliness and commented that the facility “Helped a lot.” However, the alum gave mediocre three out of five star ratings for the facility’s counseling services, the facility’s exercise and leisure activities, and meal quality. The alum also indicated that the facility could improve services with more rules.
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
The only loved one polled by Best-rehabs.com at this time of writing gave the facility perfect five-star ratings to nine of 15 evaluated categories, including treatment effectiveness and family participation. “Great communication between staff and clients,” they commented. The anonymous loved one gave four out of five stars to the center’s trained staff, counseling options, and discharge planning. “Anyone who is there is treated equally to the next,” they added.
On Yelp, three reviewers gave the facility an overall rating of three out of five stars to date. [1] Five-star reviewer Angela wrote: “I can say that everyone here genuinely cares about all things “caring for children”, and changing their lives!” However, all three reviewers cited billing problems at the facility.
FINANCING
Ryther Center for Children and Youth accepts most commercial insurance plans. The center accepts Medicaid for inpatient treatment, but not inpatient. A sliding fee scale for individuals who qualify is provided. The center only accepts cash for standard drug and alcohol assessments.
