ABOUT THOMAS MEMORIAL HOSPITAL – BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CONNECTION

Located in South Charleston, W. Va., Thomas Memorial Hospital’s Behavioral Health Connection offers inpatient, partial hospitalization (PHP), and outpatient (OP) treatment for adults and older adults with mental health and substance abuse issues. The facility does not offer detox.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Thomas Memorial accepts referrals 24 hours a day from physicians, mental health professionals, community agencies, judicial systems, businesses, clergy, schools, families, friends and individuals. Psychiatric services are offered.

Length of stay in the inpatient program averages 28 days. Clients first receive an initial evaluation from an addictionologist or psychiatrist. Clients develop individualized treatment plans with therapists, and enroll in daily 12-step meetings. Other services include addiction education, coping skills training, and temporary sponsorship.

Families participate in family education prior to Sunday visitation. Following discharge, a weekly continuing care group is available for alumni.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Staff includes addictionologists, psychiatrists, master’s level licensed professional therapists, and recovery coaches. Three reviewers polled by Best-rehabs.com rated staff’s level of training and experience an average 3.67 out of five stars.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Recovery coaches assist with activities and supervise off-unit events. Four reviewers polled by Best-rehabs.com to date rated Thomas Memorial’s accommodations and amenities and average three out of five stars and its meals and nutrition an average 2.75 stars.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

One alum polled by Best-rehabs.com to date gave Thomas Memorial mostly positive ratings. Alum Deborah rated the facility’s affordability, cleanliness, and treatment of co-occurring disorders highest at a perfect five stars. They rated its holistic treatment offerings only one star, however. In comments, the alum complained about the facility’s accommodations and group therapy but praised staff’s compassion and medication practices. She wrote: “Doctors knew titration meds, not cold turkey. Nurses willing 2 help u with anything. No resident docs bugging u all day.”

Of two anonymous alumni rating the facility on CiteHealth to date, one rated it a perfect five stars and the other gave a negative review.[1] The positive reviewer wrote that staff guided clients well, while the other felt the medication-assisted treatment needed improvement.

FINANCING

According to its website, Thomas Memorial offers financial assistance to those who qualify. Patients without insurance, who are indigent, and who reside in West Virginia may receive a 100% write-off.

  • Frequent safety check, compassion, meds given on time. Locked doors, can't smoke, group therapy, not enough activitès. Doctors knew titration meds, not cold turkey. Nurses willing 2 help u with anything. No resident docs bugging u all day

    Good employees, clean building. The treatment was not long enough & in the end did not help my loved one. My loved one was only in for 3 days, everyone was extremely nice and helpful. He chose not to change his life, no fault to the rehab facility

  • No genuine empathy, just doing a J O B. Nutrition not offered, given. When your money, Insurance is up, u r OUT. No follow up plan, no local resources. Poor concept of total recovery. Keep asking people, drs, friends, anyone about support groups, programs. I'm a medical professional, and it has taken Years, six since my last behaviour med visits to Finally be directed to the Right Place for me...and I've found out the behaviour professionals I've seen knew about this program that is tailor made for me all this time...
