About Huntington Comprehensive Treatment Center

One of seven facilities operated by West Virginia Comprehensive Treatment Centers, Huntington Comprehensive Treatment Center, situated in downtown Huntington, offers medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for adult men and women struggling with opioid addiction. According to a 2016 SAHMSA survey, the center is one of 40 facilities in W. Va. to utilize Suboxone.

Treatment & Assessment

Before beginning treatment, clients may undergo an initial substance abuse assessment and medical examination to determine an individualized treatment program and ensure MAT is an appropriate treatment approach.

To treat its clients, Huntington Comprehensive Treatment Center combines counselor-led individual and group therapy sessions with its MAT regimens. Depending on their needs, clients who are chemically dependent on morphine, prescription painkillers, or heroin may receive Suboxone, methadone, Subutex, or Vivitrol. These evidence-based medications are effective in alleviating the discomfort of opioid withdrawal and helping to curb cravings. Clients work with physicians to determine a proper dosage and medication.

While the MAT regimens address the physical consequences of opioid addiction, the center’s individual and group counseling sessions are designed to address any underlying factors that may contribute to addictive behavior. The length of an MAT regimen varies, determined by each client’s needs and progress in treatment. Clients may participate in MAT for short-term or long-term.
