Bakersfield Recovery Services Inc. is a private nonprofit agency, which comprises 54.9 percent of all facilities in California, and operates Jason’s Retreat for Men, one of 695 facilities in the state exclusively designed for adult men struggling with substance use. TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
To treat its clientele, Jason’s Retreat for Men blends 12-step facilitation with educational classes and counseling in a structured, supportive environment. During residential treatment, clients attend daily 12-step meetings, study fellowship literature, find a sponsor, and perform “step-work”.
Residents also participate in individual and group counseling and education workshops regarding a range of topics, such as relapse prevention, self-esteem, anger management, and improving communication skills. According to the facility’s website, residents typically participate in four treatment sessions daily on weekdays.
After the initial phase of residential treatment, clients take vocational and job readiness training. The facility offers educational opportunities through community programs and facilitates a weekly Family Night. When appropriate, clients may begin searching for employment.
After residential treatment, which lasts between 45 and 120 days, clients may transition to a sober living home while participating in the IOP. During all phases, clients are subject to drug and alcohol screening.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
Jason’s Retreat employs four certified substance abuse counselors for the residential program and others for the IOP. Support staff supervises the residence and transports clients to appointments and services.

The primary residence of Jason’s Retreat is a 30-bed, two-story facility with a large dining hall, full-sized kitchen, exercise room, and outdoor patio. Photographs sourced from the facility’s website suggest that clients share double-occupancy bedrooms. The organization leases nearby single-family homes as sober living facilities. Families may visit on Sundays from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and on Monday Family Nights. Clients staying more than 45 days can earn a six-hour weekend pass, which may increase to 30 hours upon approval.

Whereas most praised the “great program” on Google reviews, one alum considered it “one of the best rehabs in town.” Matthew, a representative reviewer, wrote: “Great resources, friendly staff, highly recommend.” On Facebook, the 94 percent of five- and four-star reviewers commended the staff, support, and family-like atmosphere.

The sole loved one surveyed by Best-rehabs.com to date was more critical of Jason’s Retreat. Although they considered individual counseling a strength, many metrics received moderate to low ratings. The loved one offered three-star ratings for the level of family participation, the facility’s counseling options, and the staff’s level of experience and training, as well as a two-star rating for the ease of communication with their loved one. This individual described counselors as “uptight.”

A staff member polled by Best-rehabs.com to date provided mainly favorable feedback about Jason’s Retreat, offering four-star ratings for the facility’s affordability, counseling options, and discharge planning. However, they offered three stars for the facility’s overall cleanliness. “It was really good place with friendly peaple,” the employee wrote.
