ABOUT HIS WAY RECOVERY HOUSE

Founded in 1998, His Way Recovery House in Manteca, Calif., is a nonprofit, faith-based network of 11 sober living homes. Residents work toward physical, emotional, and spiritual goals to overcome addiction. Detoxification services are not available on-site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

His Way Recovery House provides a safe, comfortable living environment where adult men and women can achieve sobriety with peer support and the teachings of Jesus Christ, rather than through an evidence-based treatment program.

During the week, residents participate in organization-sponsored events. On Thursdays, His Way Recovery House hosts a two-hour prayer meeting. There is a two-hour recovery meeting on Fridays, during which, the facility’s website notes, the ministry helps “build your faith with one another and with the Lord.” A carwash fundraiser occurs on Saturdays. On Sundays, there are church services for everyone.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

According to the facility’s website, all staff are volunteers. There currently is no additional information regarding the treatment staff.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

His Way Recovery House has six homes for men and five for women. The website explains: “Our homes are operated by a dedicated and friendly staff of volunteers who assist the guests in maintaining a home free from drugs or alcohol.” At the time of this writing, there is no other information regarding living arrangements and related offerings.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

To date, one alum has submitted a review to Best-rehabs.com and it was mostly positive. Former client Kary gave five out of five stars for treatment effectiveness, meals and nutrition, leisure, and cleanliness, as well as four stars for accommodations/amenities and one star for holistic offerings. He told Best-rehabs.com that the facility was a “great place to get back on your feet” and added: “It offers a lot of freedom and a opportunity to do what you please. You really had a chance to seek God, or a higher power. I would recommend this place to anyone.”

On Facebook, which His Way Recovery House can manage, the facility received an average of 4.7 out of five stars from 25 reviews (alumni and others). Many alumni commented about the treatment effectiveness and faith-based approach. One five-star review came from Roberta, who wrote: “I can honestly say that HisWay has changed my life for the better” and added “That’s because I have put the Lord 1st in my life.” Other Facebook users praised the “wonderful” and “life changing” program and practicing pastor.

On Google, 11 reviewers (alumni and others) awarded His Way Recovery House an average of 3.9 out of five stars. Of the total, eight reviews were the top five stars and praised the staff, program, and what these factors enabled them to achieve. “It was a life changing experience and 4 years later I’m still clean and sober…amazing results,” wrote Elvia in a representative review.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

Two loved ones polled by Best-rehabs.com to date offered mixed feedback. One seemed to think the facility was average, giving three out of five stars for accommodations/amenities and meals and nutrition, as well as for family participation, affordability, cleanliness, exercise and leisure, and staff experience. This reviewer awarded higher four out of five stars for holistic offerings, connectivity, and whether they would recommend the facility, and wrote: “Availability, affordability, safety were among the strengths. Programs can be improved.”

The other reviewer gave only one out of five stars for many metrics, including treatment effectiveness, accommodations/amenities, leisure, holistic offerings, and affordability. This anonymous parent, whose child was transferred to the facility from the criminal justice system, told Best-rehabs.com. “There was no treatment except to go to church 3x/week.” They added: “If the resident were to have received valid ‘evidence-based treatment’ and then relapsed it would be unfortunate; however, to receive no treatment in a court-appointed facility, relapse, and then suffer consequences from the court is not an efficacious practice.”

On Google, a family member submitted one of the top five-star reviews referenced above. Dawn described His Way Recovery House as “fantastic” and noted it “helped my daughter when nothing else could.”

FINANCING

Availability, affordability, safety were among the strenghts. Programs can be improved. I'm thankful for a place open to and for recovery. Most places make it impossible due to financial reasons when I've yet to meet a person in the grip of addiction with finances to help themselves recover...

  • This is a great place to get back on your feet. It offers a lot of freedom and a opportunity to do what you please. You really had a chance to seek God, or a higher power. It was a really warm friendly place. I would recommend this place to anyone. It changed my life for the better. If it was not for His Way Recovery I would not been able to do it alone.

  • Is is unconscionable that the courts would fund and approve of this facility. If anything, it is more of a sober living environment than a treatment facility. Then, if/when a resident relapses they suffer consequences, when in fact they were not receiving treatment in the first place. If the resident were to have received valid "evidence-based treatment" and then relapsed it would be unfortunate; however, to receive no treatment in a court-appointed facility, relapse, and then suffer consequences from the court is not an efficacious practice.
