ABOUT PRESENCE ST. MARY’S HOSPITAL — SUBSTANCE ABUSE CENTER
Located blocks from the Kankakee River, in the center of the small city of Kankakee in northeastern Illinois, Presence St. Mary’s Hospital is part of the Presence Health network, which runs 11 hospitals and many other healthcare locations in Illinois. A private, nonprofit facility, St. Mary’s Hospital offers outpatient treatment for adults and adolescents struggling with addiction, behavioral health disorders, and dual diagnosis. Medical detox services are not available on-site.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
St. Mary’s Hospital provides two separate outpatient programs: Adult Addiction Services, which is designed to treat issues of substance abuse, and Adult & Adolescent Behavioral Health Services, which is appropriate for dually diagnosed clients and clients struggling with emotional and psychiatric issues including schizophrenia, eating disorders, grief, anxiety, and a host of others. Before admission into Addiction Services, clients undergo a substance abuse assessment to help treatment teams determine an individualized care plan.
The Adult Addiction Services department lists assessments, counseling, therapy, and risk education among its services. The organization does not give extensive details of its programs, but Best-rehabs.com reviews indicated that clients participated in individual and group counseling. The behavioral services department also offers medication management and family counseling.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
According to the facility’s website, staff includes substance abuse counselors, psychiatrists, and therapists. The three individuals polled to date rated the staff’s level of training and experience two stars, three stars, and five stars respectively, out of five.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
Of the two reviews submitted to Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing, one was very positive and the other negative. The positive reviewer gave the facility five stars in all of the 15 evaluated treatment metrics, including its overall effectiveness, treatment for co-occurring disorders, counseling options, and holistic options. The other alum, however, gave the facility two stars for the overall quality of its individual counseling, and three stars for the overall quality of its group counseling. “It was terrible,” the anonymous reviewer wrote.
At the time of this writing, secondary sites yielded no coverage of the substance abuse center in particular, but mostly positive coverage of Presence St. Mary’s Hospital in general. The facility had average ratings of four out of five stars based on 347 reviews left on Facebook (where the hospital can manage its own page), and 3.1 out of five stars based on 10 Google reviews. Reviewers frequently praised the compassionate, caring staff, though some complained of long wait times and trouble with rudeness from individual staff members. “This is the best hospital they take very good care of your needs and wants the staff is extremely nice and understanding,” D.T. wrote in a representative positive review on Facebook.
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
The two loved ones polled by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing gave mixed feedback. Though they gave the facility three and four stars respectively for the overall effectiveness of its treatment, one reported that they would not recommend the facility, and the other remained neutral on this question. One reviewer gave the facility mostly two-star ratings and the other mostly three-star ratings in all 15 evaluated treatment metrics, including its holistic options, family program, counseling options, and treatment for co-occurring disorders. “Not enough one on one therapy. They didn’t care about their patients on an individual basis. Felt very much like a prison instead of treatment,” one anonymous reviewer wrote.
FINANCING
According to the hospital’s website, the programs accept most private insurances as well as Medicare. The adult addiction services page also indicates that Medicaid is accepted, too. The three individuals polled to date rated the center’s affordability three, three, and five out of five stars.
