Berkshire Health Systems’ McGee Recovery Center specializes in the medical detoxification and treatment of individuals 18 years of age and older struggling from opiate, alcohol, benzodiazepine, or prescription drug addiction. Individuals seeking care are provided medical supervision while receiving inpatient withdrawal treatment. Upon discharge, clients are offered resources for continued treatment and are provided with a referral to the appropriate transitional residential recovery or outpatient facility.
ABOUT BERKSHIRE HEALTH SYSTEMS – MCGEE RECOVERY CENTER
Located on the main campus of Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield, Mass., the McGee Recovery Center provides acute alcohol and drug abuse treatment for adult men and women. The Department of Health-licensed facility specializes in medically monitored detox services, offering group programming as well.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Prior to admission, all referrals undergo medical screening at the Berkshire Medical Center’s Emergency Department. Once screened, clients may access safe, medically monitored detox from alcohol or opioids, such as prescription narcotics and benzodiazepines.
Clients may also participate in group programming throughout their recovery. There is a group that focuses on early recovery and relapse prevention, as well as a pain management group for those dependent on non-prescribed opioids and/or other substances.
Once medically stabilized, clients may receive referrals to separate facilities for residential or outpatient care, or another program of the appropriate level.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
Key members of McGee’s treatment team include a medical doctor, registered nurse, licensed social worker, a consulting psychiatrist, and licensed addiction counselors.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
McGee Recovery Center can accommodate up to 21 clients at a time. Though details on the facility itself are limited, the facility earned an average of four out of five stars from the 12 individuals polled by Best-rehabs.com to date for its accommodations and amenities.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
At the time of this writing, six alumni submitted feedback for McGee to Best-rehabs.com. The feedback indicated mostly positive experiences.
Some of the alumni claimed that a brief stay here gave them their life back, while others praised the facility’s “caring” staff. Alum A.G., for example, credited McGee for providing them with a strong start on their path to recovery. “Was given the tools to succeed and was allowed to make better decisions. The rehab got me going in the right direction,” alum A.G. wrote. Out of the five alum surveyed on a scale from one to five on whether they would recommend the facility, McGee earned an average of 4.4 out of five stars.
On the more critical side, an anonymous alum wrote: “It’s not all that good.” The facility earned an average of 1.6 out of five stars for its holistic offerings and two out of five stars for its counseling options. Additionally, it received a mere 1.8 out of five stars for its level of family participation.
