ABOUT STONEWATER ADOLESCENT ADDICTION RECOVERY CENTER
Located in Oxford, Miss., situated on 62 acres of scenic, rolling hills, Stonewater Adolescent Addiction Recovery Center provides a full continuum of treatment programming for adolescent males struggling with chemical dependency and co-occurring mental health disorders. The facility provides a residential program, a partial hospitalization program (PHP), and an intensive outpatient program (IOP). If necessary, the facility also provides detoxification and withdrawal management services.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
According to Stonewater Adolescent Recovery Center’s website, before beginning treatment, clients participate in an initial assessment to help clinicians develop an individualized treatment plan. If withdrawal management is necessary, the facility may utilize medication-assisted treatment to ensure a comfortable and safe detoxification process.
Stonewater’s programming blends a range of evidence-based treatment methods with experiential therapies and a private academic curriculum. While clinical treatment helps to identify factors that may lead to addictive behavior, experiential therapies are designed to promote healthy lifestyle changes.
Residential treatment requires a 30-day minimum commitment, although treatment can be extended to 60 or 90 days. During residential treatment, clients meet with a primary therapist for individual counseling, as well as attend group counseling sessions. In addition, residents participate in meditation and mindfulness practices and physical fitness training. Residents receive 24-hour supervision and are subject to regular drug screenings. Family members are encouraged to participate in family counseling sessions and attend group activity days as specified.
Experiential therapies play a large role in Stonewater’s treatment approach. Through the facility’s Adventure and Nature Therapy, clients participate in a range of activities, including ropes course challenges, rock climbing, equine therapy, and gardening. Residents also participate in art therapy sessions, which may include painting and clay sculpting, to promote free expression and reduce stress. In addition, Stonewater incorporates Christian principles and practices into programming, and clients may receive spiritual counseling and attend Bible study sessions.
To help clients stay current with academics, Stonewater provides an online-based curriculum accredited by the the University of Mississippi High School, and classroom credits are transferable. The private school integrates level-appropriate classroom instruction with recovery skills training and motivational reinforcement. Coursework is supplemented and supervised by a qualified teacher.
Once a client completes residential treatment, Stonewater encourages clients to “step-down” through its continuum of care. The facility’s intensive outpatient program (IOP) involves a minimum of nine hours (three sessions) of weekly programming. Offering treatment while a client resides at home, IOP includes individual, group, and family counseling, educational workshops, and experiential therapies. IOP lasts up to 15 weeks.
