ABOUT CASTLEWOOD II TREATMENT CENTER – ST. LOUIS
One of Castlewood’s two residential facilities in the St. Louis area, Castlewood II treats men and women 16 years and older with eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating. The program also offers treatment forand/or mental health disorders, including anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, and PTSD. A transitional living program for clients participating in outpatient treatment is also located on campus.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
According to the facility’s website, Castlewood’s clinical team philosophy is to treat clients’ symptoms and then work on underlying issues in therapy. Typical treatment plans last two to four months, but can be extended if necessary.
Care is intensive, individualized, and catered toward clients with eating disorders. Nurses are available 24/7 to provide medical care and support, and clients attend four individual therapy sessions a week, six hours of group therapy every day, and meet with both a dietician and a physician once a week.
Treatment modalities include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), expressive and creative therapies, attachment-based therapy, and relapse prevention. **Staff-supported meals, after-meal processing, and daily weight and vital sign monitoring are also provided. Castlewood’s *co-occurring chemical dependency group meets once a week* and is designed to introduce clients to the 12-step program of recovery. A three-day long family program is offered every six weeks and includes psychoeducational groups for loved ones, along with multi-family group therapy sessions.
Castlewood also offers eating disorder treatment for males and LGBT individuals. Gender neutral language is used throughout programming, and issues of gender and sexual identity are considered during treatment.
The center’s website notes the multidisciplinary treatment team includes registered nurses, dietitians, and a medical director. In addition, there are psychiatrists, social workers, and doctoral level therapists on staff.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
The facility’s website indicates the campus is set on 55 wooded acres near Castlewood State Park. Castlewood II Treatment Center offers a peaceful campus for recovery and reflection. The intimate facility, which admits no more than 16 residents at a time, offers two-bed rooms with king-sized beds, comfortable furnishings, and flat-screen TVs.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
The four alumni surveyed by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing provided positive feedback. They all gave four- or five- out of five stars respectively for treatment effectiveness.
They also indicated they would recommend the Castlewood II Treatment Center, and rated the center’s treatment of co-occurring disorders highly. One alum noted they needed better counseling options and another indicated the center needed a better 12-step program. However, overall, alumni praised the center.
The two individuals who left Yelp reviews for the center at the time of this writing provided positive feedback, and five out of five star reviews. “Castlewood II Treatment Center helped me gain my life back from my eating disorder. I don’t know what I would have done without the patient and hardworking staff at C2,” an alum wrote in a representative review on Yelp. 
According to the facility’s website, Castlewood accepts several private insurance plans, including Blue Cross, Cigna, and Aetna among 12 in total. The facility encourages clients to call their insurance providers prior to admissions.
