ABOUT BRYLIN BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CENTER
Located in Williamsville, N.Y., about 20 minutes from Buffalo, the BryLin Behavioral Health Center provides outpatient treatment programs for adults, adolescents, and families struggling with mental illness and substance dependency. No detox services are offered here.
BryLin does, however, offer inpatient treatment at its short-term, crisis care hospital in Buffalo.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Treatment practices at BryLin are informed by the disease concept of addiction. Beginning with a comprehensive evaluation, treatment plans aim to identify any co-occurring disorders, like trauma, anxiety, and depression. Individual therapy and group counseling sessions then serve as the foundation for personalized, structured outpatient care.
Therapy sessions draw from evidence-based modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR), emotion regulation, and meditation and relaxing practices. Medication management is also provided for those with dual diagnoses.
Taking a strengths-based approach, the recovery program also offers several specially focused groups, including ones for teens, young adults between the ages of 18 to 25, professionals, men, women, and families. There’s also an Impaired Drivers Program, which consists of mandatory clinical screenings and assessments for those charged or convicted of an impaired driving offense.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
The treatment team includes psychiatrists, psychiatric registered nurses, and licensed clinical social workers (LCSWs).
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
Alumni reviews are limited, but those available from secondary sources are broadly favorable. Staff received frequent praise while some alumni reported poor communication and response times.
Best-rehabs.com received feedback from one alum, Megan. She described staff members as “excellent” and “very professional,” and gave high ratings for metrics measuring staff experience, treatment effectiveness, family participation, and co-occurring treatment. While she gave four stars for both counseling and holistic options, she maintained that the program “could use more alternative therapy.”
On BryLin’s Facebook page, which may be vetted by the facility’s staff, 24 reviewers contributed towards an average of 4.3 stars out of five. Most of these reviews, however, did not include written commentary in addition to a star-rating. Of those that do, reviewers celebrated both the staff and the effectiveness of treatment. Valerie, for example, noted that “All the workers are easy to talk to. They are very progressive with their groups as well.” David concurred, writing: “This place was a great help to me when I needed the Help back in 2013 the staff was great and very comforting.”
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
Best-rehabs.com has yet to receive any reviews from this facility’s friends and family members.
Facebook user Adam, however, shared his family’s disappointment with the facility. Calling the facility a “joke” for not having taken his son’s suicidal ideation seriously enough, he warned others: “Don’t go here because they don’t know what they are doing and are there to just get money.”
FINANCING
According to its website, BryLin accepts Medicaid, most private insurance plans, and private pay.
