ABOUT OUTREACH HOUSE II

Founded in 1980, Outreach is a non-profit treatment organization that offers a range of programs and services for individuals struggling with chemical dependency. One of seven facilities operating in N.Y.C. and Long Island, the Outreach House II of Brentwood provides residential and outpatient-based treatment for adolescents (ages 12 to 17) struggling with chemical dependency. Serving adolescents in both Nassau and Suffolk Counties in Long Island, the facility does not provide on-site detoxification services.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

To help clinicians form an individualized treatment approach, Outreach House II offers both on-site and off-site substance abuse assessments. Outreach House II adheres to a therapeutic community model of recovery, which utilizes peer support and a highly-structured schedule of programming to help clients develop skills that promote recovery.

During the residential program, clients receive a full day of classroom instruction through BOCES schooling, an alternative school that provides a modified curriculum that’s tailored to the student’s individual needs. Residents also receive life skills and/or vocational training along with educational seminars on addiction.

To address underlying issues that may contribute to addictive behavior, residents participate in individual, group, and family counseling sessions. According to the facility’s website, Outreach House II treats substance abuse disorders while addressing the “legal, family, educational, psychological, and social” issues that may impact the resident’s behavior. Anger management counseling is also available.

Along with educational classes and counseling sessions, residents participate in a recreational and physical fitness program, as well as various sobriety maintenance activities. HIV education and general health classes are also incorporated into Outreach House II’s programming.

To involve loved ones in the process, Outreach House II invites family members to participate in support groups and participate in family counseling sessions. The facility also offers a specialized support group for siblings of clients. Before a resident completes treatment, the facility provides case management services for clients and family members, which includes referrals to appropriate agencies. Case managers may also encourage clients to utilize Outreach’s outpatient program as an aftercare service.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Outreach House II employs a multidisciplinary staff comprised of licensed substance abuse counselors, credentialed teachers, licensed social workers, and case managers. Outreach also provides a range of training programs for staff and industry professionals.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Outreach House II is a 36,000 square-foot facility that can accommodate up to 50 residents. Residents sleep in dorm-like bedrooms, and the facility features a full-sized gym with basketball courts and exercise equipment, lounge areas, and a cafeteria-styled dining hall.

Secondary sources revealed more polarizing opinions. One Google reviews, 13 individuals (loved ones and alumni) gave the facility an average rating of 3.5 out of five stars[1]. While some alumni felt the staff could be overbearing, other former clients praised staff members. “The staff at Outreach truely cares, and does everything they can to make sure you succeed not only through your treatment, but the rest of your life,” Brian, a representative reviewer, wrote.

  • Their lack of understanding, and adaptation to patients is unbelieveable. They seem to believe that everything is black or white and that your treatment HAS to go the exact way they want it to or else they will interfere with your progression through the program. Overall it was a horrid experience. There are some good people there, but the majority of people working there had a ton of issues they should deal with themselves before taking on the responsibility of "treating" another persons issues.
