Caron Treatment Centers Wernersville Pennsylvania

To establish a compassionate and knowledgeable treatment community where individuals impacted by alcoholism or drug addiction can embark on a fresh start.

ABOUT CARON TREATMENT CENTERS

Caron Treatment Centers, situated in the scenic hills of Wernersville, Pennsylvania, is among several Caron facilities throughout the country. The center offers treatment for substance abuse and co-occurring mental health conditions, covering a wide range of demographics such as teenagers, adults, seniors, and professionals. Services provided include assessments, residential care, and on-site detoxification. While outpatient treatment is not available at this particular facility, Caron offers such services at other treatment centers within their network.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Caron takes a comprehensive and thorough approach to client evaluation, utilizing the initial five days of a client’s stay to conduct a comprehensive residential assessment. This process involves medical, psychological, psychiatric, social, and neurocognitive assessments, as well as lab work, to formulate an individualized treatment plan.

Clients who require medical care and supervision may initiate their treatment in the dedicated on-site detoxification unit, which offers support and supervision around the clock. Once stabilized, clients transition to gender-specific and age-appropriate residential treatment. The program is grounded in 12-step principles and incorporates various therapeutic modalities such as individual counseling, process groups, and family therapy. Neurofeedback therapy aids in managing moods and anxiety, while educational workshops on addiction and relapse prevention are provided. Wellness professionals are also available to offer guidance on nutrition and fitness.

For clients who are still attending school, Caron provides on-site education and GED tutoring and testing. Adult clients can access vocational training and programming designed to prepare them for steady employment. There are also specialized treatment programs available for healthcare professionals and executives at the Grandview location. Continuing care and an online aftercare program are offered to clients who complete treatment.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Caron’s staff comprises of physicians, psychologists, therapists with master’s degrees, social workers, certified counselors, and other healthcare professionals.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Situated on a mountaintop, Caron boasts a picturesque location surrounded by stunning natural landscapes and well-maintained grounds. While residents generally share bedrooms, some private rooms are available.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Over three dozen alumni surveyed by Best-rehabs.com provided mostly positive feedback regarding the facility and its offerings. However, some respondents had complaints. Among the categories evaluated, affordability received the lowest rating with three out of five stars based on feedback from 19 former clients. One anonymous alumnus told Best-rehabs.com, “Extended care saved my life. Expensive!” Some alumni felt that the amenities and alternative treatment options were lacking given the price point. Holistic offerings received an average rating of 3.64 out of five stars from 33 respondents. One anonymous reviewer described the holistic offerings as “limited” and mentioned the lack of amenities other than occasional yoga and gym time.

Treatment effectiveness received a rating of 4.17 out of five stars based on feedback from 18 reviewers. An anonymous alumnus said, “Experienced counselors, great doctors, all around great staff. Beautiful location. It’s the best choice I could have made in my life and if you’re willing to do the work then this is the place for you.”

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

Best-rehabs.com has received feedback from over 50 loved ones of former Caron clients. Friends and family members were generally impressed with the care their loved ones received. When asked how likely they were to recommend the facility to others, the average rating provided by 30 respondents was 4.17 out of five stars. Leigh, a family member, told Best-rehabs.com, “I would recommend Caron in a heartbeat. I do believed they saved our daughter and put her back on the right road. they also saved us.” Respondents gave the highest ratings to the facility’s cleanliness, the program’s family participation, the staff’s level of experience, and the program’s exercise and leisure options. J.R., another family member, stated, “All of their counselors were at least bachelor degree educated or more. They were tough but warm… They ran this program effortlessly and after 5 days we all walked out as one.”

Similar to the alumni, loved ones found the program to be expensive, giving it an average rating of three out of five stars for affordability. One anonymous reviewer commented, “Large facility that catered to his every need. It was so expensive and he was only able to be there for a month and he needed more time than that.”

WHAT STAFF SAY

A small number of staff members who were surveyed by Best-rehabs.com had positive remarks about Caron and its offerings. All six respondents stated that they would recommend the facility to others. One anonymous staff member stated, “This rehab has the ability to manage the most difficult cases whether it encompasses only addiction or a dually diagnosed patient. I have witnessed miracles of long-term recovery.”

FINANCING

The facility does not disclose treatment costs on its website. However, Caron does mention that scholarship funding is available and maintains relationships with lending companies such as Prosper and M-Lend Financial. The facility accepts insurance, but it may not cover the entirety of costs.

  • Caron saved my life. The care I received while the was compassionate, kind, loving and tough - which is exactly what I needed The staff; from admissions to the counselors, the counselor assistants, the kitchen servers and drivers; is by far the best and from what I witnessed, each loved working for Caron.. Caron gave me the tools to build a solid foundation . These tools are key to my recovery and I utilize them each and every day. Yes, they are expensive, but I totally got what I paid for and then some. They do offer scholarships to those in financial need - you just have to ask, After care and alumni relations are top notch. I would recommend Caron to anyone who needs help and asks.

There was not one area, (except for cost) that was not outstanding Caters to those who can afford the treatment. Not many minority groups.

  • This place saved my life. It was absolutely incredibly. ALL the staff were kind, respectful, and clearly loved their jobs. Caron is an amazing place that covers all aspects of addiction and alcoholism. Go here!!!!
Caron saved my life. My stay on the older adults unit was wonderful. The staff was caring and always available. My fellow unit mates were great and I made friendships that are even stronger now. I made friends on other units who were younger than me but we all shared the same issues. I would recommend Caron to anyone one who can afford it.

  • So I feel it is a responsibility to weigh in on Caron Treatment Center. Our loved one (20 yr old male) had developed a very high level opioid pill addiction as well as major heavy weed issue. He had been living outside our home - by our request - from the time of HS graduation. When after 3 yesr he told us he needed help and had an addiction, we had the card ready and when he came by our house (having been homeless for 2+ months) we handed him a Caron intake phone number and said "if you are serious, call them". He made the call and the resistance to the challenge and program began near immediately. He threatened to leave Caron PA and never did...he made it through the 30 days and was honest but mostly uncommunicative while there. On the last day, he agreed to go to an extended care (Caron Florida). Much tougher and challenging for the addict I understand. We visited with him 2 months in for 24 hours and still fighting resisting and slowly very slowly coming around a bit. It can take a while for 6 years of mental and physical dependence on drugs begin to allow more clear drinking. My wife and I had been attending a Caron Family support meeting in our local community for over a year before our son came home and asked for help. We knew we had a sick patient, who would not even acknowledge he was ill. So when he did make that statement - we were prepared. We listened to Caron suggestions and followed their program. We had to work on our own addictions and co-dependency as a family and that was obvious. We have 2 other college aged kids who witnessed the carnage that addiction delivers to a family. Our experience is that Caron has helped us as a family heal tremendously. Our loved one continues on in Florida and even extended a bit to work on some areas that he acknowledged were needed. We dont work his sobriety program - he does....we just work on our own health. Caron is very challenging and at times the process of addiction recovery is frustrating. I don t lay that at Caron, its just messy stuff. We are not cars that just need an air filter to run better - we are people and lots of damage has been done. You do not undo year's of damage in 3-90 days, but you begin to.....that is the key.....I wish you the best on your family journey and would give Caron an A. Why.....they gave him a shot, an education, and some hope....much of the rest is up to him. That is the reality people.
The best thing about Caron is the 5 day assessment. It enables a person to get a loved one in without thinking about a 28 day commitment. The counseling is fair however, the family education program provides necessary information about what addiction is and how it acts as an allergy or sickness. Additionally, the FEP open dialog among those involved. It falls short In that they provide no closure after 5 days of conflict with no conflict resolution or bringing together families to discuss or come to some helpful closure. Instead, when program is completed you leave and your love one is left behind wondering what next. Which comes to the second major issue, caron fails extremely short on suggestions for what next... while I understand the need to provide facitlies used in the past. They do not help in thinking or asking about alternatives. In our case, it became a one suggestion fit all. Terribly upsetting when you are in the business of healing and fall short on the next steps. We went to caron because of their past reputation. However, after researching next steps not provided by caron. There are other great treatment centers out there willing to work the whole process. Do your research and do rely on reputation alone. Caron lets the ball drop at a crucial time. .

  • I've spent 3 months in this rehab and it be good and bad. Like everything in life. However, If you are a female , sophisticated, functioning alcoholic professional this is not the place for you. It is more like a juvenile detention home. Perhaps this is happenibg in rehabs across the world. Due to the heroin Epidemic there is an increasing amount of young females going into recovery. The breakdown is - they shouldn't be all grouped together. For a more mature female it actually worsens the pride and self worth of the patient. Sad, but more concentration needs to be looked at in treating addiction in different ways. Peace.

  • Excellent family program. They encouraged me to attend additional treatment in Florida instead of going back to work. This was costly financially and detrimental to a full recovery in the place where I had friends, family and a job. This was a very good rehab. There were a lot of boring lectures during which I slept. Would have preferred more group therapy.

  • This facility saved my life. It's different from other residential treatment programs. They provide intensive individual and group therapy, multiple AA meetings a day and incredibly individualized care. The extended care here is where the program shines and extended care immersed me into the program of AA. The therapists here are superb. I found the facility to be antiquated but what you're paying for is the treatment, not the amenities. Overall I credit Caron for starting me on the path of sobriety. I now work in treatment myself and have achieved long term sobriety.
I was extremely disappointed in the judgement and the lack of professionalism with the staff. They appeared ill equipped to handle the emotions of a young person going through withdrawal and failed to take into account past history when assigning a therapist. When my family member left we were more confused and hopeless and helpless than when they entered. Luckily, we found professionals who were more familiar with, not only addictive behavior, but mental health diagnoses as well. I believe Caron has coasted on their reputation from decades ago, but the lack of competency is now catching up.
This program is to treatment what McDonalds is to fine dining. Caron Treatment Centers = McTreatment.
This is a wonderful rehab center. Daughter went through YAF for 30 days came home and immediately wanted to go back. She called herself and they took her for 10 days and then referred her to a sober house. They had wanted her to go through WEC for three months after her 30 days but she would not go. Came home after two months and relapsed with alcohol on her way home. She went back to WEC for three months and that was the best three months of her life in the last two years. She learned so much-as we did. She is now back in college getting a second degree and living in a sober college apartment setting that Caron recommended. So many comments talk about how Caron only wants your money and how they always recommend extra stay there. There is a REASON. They are the professionals and they know what is best. My daughter regrets not listening to them when they referred WEC but everything happens for a reason. She was with a wonderful home of women and great counselors. I would recommend Caron in a heartbeat. I do believed they saved our daughter and put her back on the right road. they also saved us. Thank you to everyone at Caron.
The meals are well prepared. The institution seems interested only in generating revenue. I recommend against the additional after care program "My First Year." It offers no real value and is expensive.

  • I believe Caron is a very good facility for some people. I do believe they are considered one of the best based on past experiences, ratings, reviews. I do not think that they are the best now ,by any means. My loved one arrived in a very vulnerable and scary place. The first issue that really threw him/us was that he was assigned a room, counselor, hall ,and my LO was becoming acclimated and then suddenly, they said they had put him in the wrong place and he was moved. Not a great start for an addict looking for some stability and a very significant sign of lack of communication and organization. The facility itself is very nice and set in a pretty area of PA, definitely conducive to peace and quiet. I liked the family seminar we went to on one of our Sunday visitations...very informative and helpful. The greatest downfall for all of us was that my LO had a very pleasant counselor certainly, but very new and that just doesn't cut it when you're paying almost $40,000 for a 28 day stay. No one at this facility should be a new counselor and if they're new to that facility, they need to shadow someone for at least a month in order to understands the workings of the place. This person was very, very "green" and it showed in everything he/she did.In fairness, I don't believe my loved one went there with a true burning desire to get well, which certainly affects the experience, however I do feel that with excellent counseling and personalized attention, he may have had a better chance at recovery. They recommend their extended stay program to everyone which is to the tune of $45,000 and at the time my LO was there, they took little to no insurance. I just felt that the price and the quality of the product were not commensurate at all.

  • Excellent food and accommodations. Great gym and physical environment. Treatment was awful. They recommended the same after care for everyone, which consisted of several months at one of their other treatment facilities which charges an additional 30k a month. They used manipulative tactics to try and get us to agree to their after care and then claimed I was resisting treatment if I suggested aftercare somewhere else. Very manipulative, very unethical. Unqualified counselors.

  • Well qualified counslers, doctors, follow up, strict but effective, heart wrenching, eye opening, much needed, well supervised parent week. Not long term care in Pennsylvania. We tried to send our son to rehab months earlier. Every other rehab we contacted was hard sell and kept calling us. Caron would send text periodically to check in and see if we were okay. Never did they tell us we had to come or what the consequences would be if we did not. All of their counslers were at least bachelor degree educated or more. They were tough but warm. We learned that drugs did not discriminate and we were in a mixed family group that in a million years I thought I would never experience. They ran this program effortlessly and after 5 days we all walked out as one. We kept in touch and made sure everyone stayed strong.

  • Campus is easy to navigate and beautiful. Caron offers a church service each Sunday which is a plus right on campus. It seems the 12 steps are the only pathway to recovery according to Caron and they insist you are alcoholic no matter what. Overall the experience is very beneficial in the fact they keep you very occupied those first 30 days which is crucial to keep the patient clean and away from people places and things.

  • The medical and nursing staff A plus. The policies regarding treatment option should be revised. Excellent facility , my close one was discharge without any problem and reach his treatment goals
Beautiful facility. Costly. If the patient is not ready to change or unwilling the treatment will be ineffective. My son, age 16, was a patient. The entire family participated in a weekend training session. I definitely would not recommend this treatment facility for adolescents. Fortunately after going through a 23 month program he is sober and clean.

  • I was in this facility back in June and it's the second rehab I've been two and it was a terrible experience. I was in the adolescent unit and I feel that they just trick parents into them paying more money to have your kid stay there. Yes I am clean now but when I got out of there they just made me want to use more than I ever wanted. I am actually clean today because of the program I work they don't help at all with that there all we did was bs meetings and "groups" which were not effective at all. We just talked about the drugs not why we used the drugs and everyone just makes fun of and rips on each other which didn't help with the experience. I met with a psychologist twice and physiatricts maybe 4 times. If you wanna send your kid here don't waste the money at all just have him go to meetings near your area he or she will benefit a lot for that. Or if you do send your kid here just have him stay the 28 days nothing more or else he will have huge resentments against that I still have with my parents today that I'm working on. So from my experience don't go here and they don't let u smoke and put bs rules on that u gotta follow but have no reason behind why they have these rules it's a joke

12-Step focus and comprehensive care, including extended care. In the 8 years before my retirement I worked in Extended Care. I saw firsthand the quality of work and caring delivered by staff from CEO to counselors to drivers and food service staff. I saw many, many come back for annual reunions, telling stories of how their treatment at Caron prepared them for full, happy and productive lives.

  • Beautiful locale & good food. No average person could afford it. My loved one only got in on an alumni grant & we still had to come up with $13,000 dollars for 28 days. When that time was up & we couldnt come up with another $40,000 for another 28 days & no more grant $$, we were kicked to the curb. 4 yrs later we're still fighting this. The counselor we had was inexperienced & didnt seem to care. When the $$ ran out we were kicked to the curb.
