ABOUT PENINSULA LIGHTHOUSE CAMPUS – KNOX
A Division of Parkwest Medical Center, Peninsula Lighthouse Campus – Knox is one of three Peninsula outpatient facilities that provides outpatient-based services and programs for adults and adolescents struggling with substance abuse, primary psychiatric conditions, and co-occurring disorders. Located in Knoxville, Tenn., Peninsula Lighthouse Campus provides age-specific intensive outpatient programs (IOP), as well as peer-led support groups and educational classes for adults struggling with a primary psychiatric condition.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
To effectively develop an appropriate treatment plan, clients undergo an initial substance and/or psychiatric assessment upon enrollment. Lighthouse Peninsula Campus of Knox offers substance abuse-related treatment programs for both adolescents and adults. Both age-specific IOPs involve five sessions per week, with each session lasting between three and four hours. IOP typically lasts between six and eight weeks, depending on the client’s needs.
Peninsula Lighthouse Campus’s programming to treat substance abuse disorders is a client-centered, cognitive behavioral model of treatment, designed to help clients change maladaptive thinking and behavioral patterns. IOP primary involves group counseling sessions and family therapy, as well as educational classes that focus on identifying relapse triggers, relapse prevention techniques, coping skills, and self-awareness. Individual therapy is provided on a limited and as-needed basis. Peninsula also introduces clients to the principles and practices of the 12-step model of recovery.
IOP focused on treating clients with a primary psychiatric disorder or a dual diagnosis also includes therapeutic group counseling sessions that focus on emotional regulation, stress management, anger management, and coping skills. In addition, clients receive ongoing psychiatric evaluations and weekly medication management consultations to alleviate psychiatric symptoms.
Along with therapeutic services, Peninsula Lighthouse Campus of Knox County also operates a Peer Support Academy, which provides socialization opportunities, peer support, and education classes for clients with psychiatric disorders. A supplemental program to core mental health treatment, the Peer Support Academy facilitates peer-led educational classes and support groups, as well as recreational outings that may include bowling, movies, picnics, museums, and special events with other peer support centers in the region.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
Peninsula Lighthouse Campus – Knox employs a team of psychiatrists, master’s-level substance abuse and mental health counselors, nurses, and case managers. The Peer Support Academy is led by individuals with first-hand experience with mental health concerns who have completed an 80-hour training course.
WHAT ALUMNI SAY
Although Best-rehabs.com has yet to receive feedback from alumni to date, secondary sources revealed polarizing alumni opinions of the facility. On Google, six individuals gave the facility an average rating of 3.3 out of five stars. Although a majority of reviewers generally approved of the facility, unsatisfied individuals felt the facility could improve in case management and reported issues of under-staffing. Alum Carla gave the facility a five-star rating and wrote: “I have too say they saved my life.” However, alum Melissa disagreed. “Worse care ever,” she wrote.
WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY
The sole loved one polled by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing appreciated most aspects of the facility. Out of five stars, the survey respondent gave four-star ratings for the staff’s level of experience and training, the facility’s counseling options, its discharge planning, and ability to treat co-occurring disorders.
