Part of Virginia Beach General Hospital, Virginia Beach Psychiatric Center provides inpatient and outpatient care for adults dealing with substance abuse and dual diagnosis. The center, located in Virginia Beach, also provides on-site detox.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Virginia Beach Psychiatric Center offers 24-hour assessments that are used to determine the level of care needed. Assessments evaluate the client’s substance abuse and mental health history and include a safety assessment and plan of action.
The Rapid Stabilization Unit (RSU) at Virginia Beach provides crisis stabilization. The Center for Emotional Recovery (CER) provides assistance to individuals dealing with mental illness through psychotherapy and medication management. Detoxification is provided through the Center for Dual Diagnosis Treatment (CDT).
The partial hospitalization program (PHP) includes two treatment tracks: substance abuse treatment and mental illness treatment. Clients will participate in individual, group, and family counseling and educational groups, and are subject to physician oversight. The program is offered from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.

“This facility is a great place for people with duel diagnosis,” wrote alum T.C. “It also gives you plenty of options & resources for you to stay clean and sober on the outside.” Another alum commented: “Locked ward was demeaning.”

Five loved ones polled by Best-rehabs.com at this time of writing gave mixed commentary about treatment at Virginia Beach Psychiatric Center: two were positive, two were negative, and one was mixed. Four individuals polled on 15 metrics gave ratings of 3.25 out of five stars for the facility’s staff’s level of experience and training and visitors policy. They gave low ratings of 2.5 out of five stars for its holistic offerings and 2.75 stars for its counseling options.

Two reviewers called staff a weakness of the facility. “I have known others that have used this facility in the past (years ago) and we thought highly of everyone,” wrote one anonymous parent. “I see now that things have changed and the personnel are not as caring as before.”
