Akua Mind & Body is located in Newport, California and provides a healthy and relaxing environment for individuals struggling with substance abuse. Our treatment approach focuses on addressing the entire person, integrating physical, psychological, and spiritual aspects, along with evidence-based methods. We offer gender-specific detoxification, residential treatment, and intensive outpatient services for individuals seeking rehabilitation from alcohol, prescription drugs, cocaine, and heroin addiction. Our facility is a part of the 15.1% of facilities in California that offer detox services.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

We pride ourselves on delivering highly personalized treatment plans tailored to each individual’s unique needs. Our team of clinical professionals work alongside creative and fitness therapy practitioners to provide a comprehensive blend of traditional and holistic therapy methods in a rejuvenating environment.

Treatment at Akua Mind & Body is based on a combination of Eastern Medicine and Western Science. We utilize holistic therapies like Reiki and meditation alongside evidence-based modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and more. Our individualized programs may include substance-specific detox, meditation, trauma therapy, psychotherapy, 12-step self-help groups, life purpose coaching, yoga, music therapy, and work with family and friends. We also offer medication management for individuals struggling with co-occurring disorders.

Residential treatment typically lasts 30 days, and our intensive outpatient programs (IOP) provide similar services while also offering specialized psycho-educational groups focused on relapse prevention, forgiveness, grief and anger management. Additional services include community service opportunities, life skills seminars, and resume and career building workshops.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

At Akua Mind & Body, our team consists of two dozen staff members who hold an array of advanced degrees, licenses, and certifications. Our medical director is a board-certified psychiatrist with expertise in detox, dual diagnosis, and PTSD. We also have registered therapists with master’s degrees in counseling psychology, marriage and family therapy, nursing, and social work. Our staff also includes certified substance abuse counselors, a licensed acupuncturist and Chinese herbalist, registered dietitian, chef, and Reiki II Practitioner.
