Clean & Sober – New Start Residential Recovery

ABOUT CLEAN & SOBER

Clean & Sober is a nonprofit organization that serves homeless and disadvantaged men and women who are struggling with substance abuse. The organization provides long-term sober housing placements. Its administrative office and walk-in center are located in the Dos Rios Triangle, less than two miles northeast of downtown Sacramento, California.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Clean & Sober’s self-help program is based on the 12-Step model. The treatment process begins with an assessment and eligibility screening at the walk-in office. Clients may stay in the program for up to a year or longer.

The program aims to give clients the time and resources to learn to live in sobriety, address neglected health issues, seek employment and/or education, and rebuild relationships with their families. Although Clean & Sober’s website does not provide extensive information about the recovery program, reviews submitted to Best-rehabs.com indicate that the therapeutic focus is on group counseling.

According to Clean & Sober’s website, an average of 32 individuals attend 12-step group meetings at its walk-in center.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Clean & Sober is staffed by an executive director and a residential program manager. The facility does not currently provide information about staff qualifications.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Residents of Clean & Sober live in two communities called New Start I and II, which consist of 10 townhomes each. These communities accommodate a total of 65 residents. Average ratings from six Best-rehabs.com users indicate that the quality of the accommodations is highly rated, with an average of 4.33 stars.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Four out of five alumni polled by Best-rehabs.com gave perfect five-star ratings for the overall effectiveness of the treatment. One anonymous alum mentioned, “The program gave me the tools, strengths, and knowledge of the 12-step programs. It allowed me ample time to work on my steps as well as build a solid foundation.” Two alumni provided ratings of four and five stars for the staff’s level of training and experience, as well as the overall quality of group and individual therapy. While most alumni rated the program favorably, many gave low ratings of one or two stars for holistic offerings and mediocre to low ratings for exercise and leisure options. One anonymous alum also expressed concerns about overcrowding.

On New Start Residential Recovery’s Facebook page, the facility has a 4.6-star rating based on 10 reviews. Jessica wrote, “The best place to be at if you want to get clean!”

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

Two loved ones who were polled by Best-rehabs.com provided positive feedback. One gave a five-star rating for staff experience and family participation. However, they noted that their loved one left the program only six months ago, so they couldn’t yet measure the long-term success. The loved one mentioned that the program’s strength is the integration of the family into the recovery process. When asked about weaknesses, they mentioned that their friend or family member was not allowed to be on any medications during treatment.

The other alum gave five stars for accommodations and amenities, cleanliness, affordability, 12-step inclusion, and the likelihood of recommending the facility. They wrote, “It has just the right amount of program and time to rest,” adding that it may take a day or two to get in.

FINANCING

Clean & Sober does not deny services to any client based on their inability to pay. Monthly fees are charged on a sliding scale, with a maximum cost of $275, plus an additional $75 for food. For clients with no income, Clean & Sober covers the entire cost of treatment. The organization also operates TurnAround Coffee House, which provides job skills to resident volunteers and helps fund the sober living program.
