ABOUT MAAC – NOSOTROS

Located in Chula Visa, Calif., MAAC offers “culturally-sensitive” residential communities at two locations. This review focuses on the Nosotros location, which offers treatment for men struggling with substance abuse. The facility is one of California’s 695 facilities that offer programs specifically for men. The residential communities are designed for men seeking a structured, supportive environment. MAAC’s mission is “maximizing self-sufficiency with families and individuals through high-quality programs and advocacy in our communities.” Detox is not available on-site.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Before being admitted into a recovery home, clients undergo an assessment and are asked to commit to a minimum of six months of treatment. Clients participate in a combination of traditional therapies and community-based therapies.

Programming includes both individual and group counseling, educational workshops, and self-esteem building exercises. Clients also have access to community resources including vocational training, food vouchers, continuing education, and housing. The facility is one of the U.S.’s 38.6% of facilities that offer vocational training.

Community development is a main component of the treatment process, and all clients participate in community-focused treatment sessions. Group sessions are held to develop and reinforce positive behaviors, and residents are required to attend AA and/or NA meetings.

MAAC uses education programs to teach clients about addiction and a range of other topics that are critical to a successful recovery. It offers workshops on topics such as relapse prevention, parenting skills, conflict resolution, anger management, and domestic violence.

The residential communities are staffed 24 hours per day. Clients are responsible for household chores such as cooking, cleaning, front desk reception, and activity scheduling. While residents are in treatment, they are expected to follow house rules.

  • Hopefully, it's improved since I went 20 years ago. Counselors were almost all egotistical narcissists who were sicker than the patients. In fact, I wound up in a detox hospital with one of my "counselors" a year after treatment at Valley Hope. There plan was to tear you down but never got around to building patients back up. Horrible, inhumane psychological treatment.

  • Grateful. That sums it up. Our son is Autistic and they really worked him and protected him. He stayed on North Unit. staff was respectful to kids. One staff member..was a godsend. He was so patient and genuinely cared for him. Other staff members..were wonderful as well! One of the doctors there was the first doctor I have met in a long time that actually listened to our concerns about his meds. Thank you Holly Hills staff.
