TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
Wellstone Regional Hospital follows a 12-step based therapy approach that utilizes “physical, social, spiritual, medical, and psychotherapeutic treatment interventions.” All residential programs are designed to be short-term and highly structured, aimed at targeting symptoms of the behavioral health issue, developing coping skills, and designing an aftercare plan.
Substance abuse is treated using a holistic method. Clients are enrolled in residential or outpatient programs that focus on reducing the use of drugs and facilitating the development of coping skills. Suboxone maintenance is available as needed.
Other treatment programs include individual, group, and family therapy, along with education groups. Specialized programs are available for different age groups. Programs for children and adolescents include “hygiene time,” school time, family meetings, recreation, and “quiet time.”
The children’s program is called BEARS (behavior, emotions, anger management, respect and self-esteem). This program offers six or more educational group therapy sessions with a daily theme for better retention.
For geriatric patients, treatment focuses on maintaining functionality while addressing common issues that come with aging. Treatment includes counseling combined with recreational therapy, special education for family and caregivers, medication management, and facilitating placement after leaving the program.
