Hope Ministries Addiction Recovery Program

Hope Ministries Addiction Recovery Program

Located in South Bend, Ind., Hope Ministries Addiction Recovery Program is a Christian-based, residential treatment program designed for adult men, women, as well as mothers with children struggling with chemical dependency and co-occurring mental health disorders. The program primarily serves individuals who struggle with chronic unemployment and homelessness. The facility does not provide detoxification services.

To form a customized treatment plan, Hope Ministries may perform a comprehensive substance abuse assessment and psychiatric evaluation to identify issues that may contribute to chemical dependency. To treat its clients, the facility blends Christian principles and practices, therapeutic counseling, education, 12-step immersion, and job readiness training. The average length of the treatment program is between 12 and 18 months.

A major component of Hope Ministries’ treatment for chemical dependency is the 12-step model of recovery. During residential treatment, clients may attend regular 12-step meetings, participate in Big Book studies, and perform associated “step work.” Clients also participate in pastoral counseling and group counseling sessions. Mental health counseling is offered through partnering agencies, and medication management may also be available to dual diagnosed clients.

According to Hope Ministries’ website, residents also participate in six-month series of classes that focus on Bible-based studies, which address developing spiritual health, forming healthy boundaries and relationships, the life of Christ, and addiction recovery. As a Christian-based program, treatment components may also include devotionals, church services, and spiritual counseling. Hope Ministries’ website states: “These classes further help residents understand and transform their unhealthy beliefs.”

To prepare clients for discharge and self-sufficiency, Hope Ministries Addiction Recovery Program emphasizes continued education and job readiness as important components to treatment. The facility provides an adult education program, which may include G.E.D. preparation and testing, post-secondary education, or vocational skills-training. The facility also helps with job-readiness training through mentoring and community partnerships to help clients obtain and maintain employment.

Hope Ministries Addiction Recovery Program employs credentialed counselors, case managers, chaplains, a support staff, and volunteers. Mental health services are provided through partnering agencies.

According to the facility’s website, Hope Ministries can house up to 18 families with children, 35 men, and 16 women. Images sourced from the facility’s website revealed simple, private bedrooms, a large dining hall, and a TV lounge. The facility also features a Learning Center with computers, and a childcare center for mothers with children.

The sole alum polled by Best-rehabs.com at the time of this writing praised the facility in multiple areas. Out of five stars, the survey respondent gave perfect five-star ratings for the staff’s level of experience and training, the amount of family participation in treatment, the facility’s ability to treat co-occurring disorders, and the facility’s cleanliness and upkeep. “Hope Ministries was a life changing part of my life,” alum J.L. wrote.

Secondary sources tended to support this positive assessment of the facility. On Google, 16 reviewers gave the facility an average rating of 4.8 out of five stars [1]. Many cited the facility’s staff and faith-based approach as its strengths. “A community leader in compassionate care for people in crisis,” Ryan, a representative reviewer, wrote.

While Best-rehabs.com has yet to receive feedback from employees to date, one volunteer review left on Google reviews was very positive. Giving the facility a five-star rating, the individual wrote: “You can tell they care about what they’re doing!”

As a facility that primarily caters to homeless and unemployed individuals, Hope Ministries Addiction Recovery Program is provided free of charge to clients. Support of the facility is provided by private donations and volunteers.

  • The relationship you develop with the staff members is unlike anything I had ever encountered in life. Not once was I looked down upon as an addict and instead I was treated as an equal. The facility focuses on not just fixing outside issues but focuses on the inner problems that are leading you down the path of destruction. The facility follows the grace model and instead of punishing you for your mistakes, they ask you to self evaluate in order to find the reason you made the decision that you did. Hope Ministries is a non profit organization and services are free. Which in itself is a relief not having to stress about the financial aspect of treatment. The facility is co-ed so for some this might cause a distraction. Hope Ministries was a life changing part of my life. After a 13 year addiction to methamphetamine and 3 trips to prison I found myself in jail yet one more time. After posting bond I knew I had to do something with my life and at the age of 32 I knew it was now or never. I moved into Hope not exactly sure what to expect. Each day began with the support and encouragement of a community that felt welcoming from day one. The Grace that Hope extends to you is like that God. Your mistakes are viewed as learning tools not set backs and used to grow upon not condemned you for. Within my addiction my parents had been given guardianship of my now 12 year old son.Our reunion was guided by the staff at Hope and our relationship grew from there. Hope isn't a short term program that tosses you out after you complete the core classes instead you can reside at Hope for a duration of 2 years which allows you to truly transform yourself as you prepare to re-enter society. Hope Ministries is also a non-profit organisation and their services are free of charge which removes the financial stress that a rehabilitation program often adds to your life.
