ABOUT HOPE MINISTRIES ADDICTION RECOVERY PROGRAM

Located in South Bend, Indiana, Hope Ministries Addiction Recovery Program is a Christian-based residential treatment program designed for adult men, women, as well as mothers with children who are struggling with chemical dependency and co-occurring mental health disorders. The program primarily serves individuals who struggle with chronic unemployment and homelessness. The facility does not provide detoxification services.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

In order to develop a customized treatment plan, Hope Ministries may conduct a comprehensive substance abuse assessment and psychiatric evaluation to identify underlying issues that contribute to chemical dependency. The facility combines Christian principles and practices, therapeutic counseling, education, 12-step immersion, and job readiness training to treat its clients. The average length of the treatment program is between 12 and 18 months.

A significant aspect of Hope Ministries’ treatment for chemical dependency is the use of the 12-step model of recovery. During residential treatment, clients have the opportunity to attend regular 12-step meetings, participate in Big Book studies, and engage in associated “step work.” Additionally, clients receive pastoral counseling and participate in group counseling sessions. Mental health counseling is available through partnering agencies, and medication management may be provided to dual diagnosed clients.

According to Hope Ministries’ website, residents also participate in a six-month series of classes that focus on Bible-based studies. These classes address the development of spiritual health, the establishment of healthy boundaries and relationships, the life of Christ, and addiction recovery. As a Christian-based program, treatment components may also include devotionals, church services, and spiritual counseling. Hope Ministries’ website states: “These classes further help residents understand and transform their unhealthy beliefs.”

To prepare clients for discharge and self-sufficiency, Hope Ministries Addiction Recovery Program places a strong emphasis on continued education and job readiness as integral components of treatment. The facility offers an adult education program that may include G.E.D. preparation and testing, post-secondary education, or vocational skills training. Additionally, the facility provides support for job readiness training through mentoring and community partnerships to assist clients in obtaining and maintaining employment.

  • The relationship you develop with the staff members is unlike anything I had ever encountered in life. Not once was I looked down upon as an addict and instead I was treated as an equal. The facility focuses on not just fixing outside issues but focuses on the inner problems that are leading you down the path of destruction. The facility follows the grace model and instead of punishing you for your mistakes, they ask you to self evaluate in order to find the reason you made the decision that you did. Hope Ministries is a non profit organization and services are free. Which in itself is a relief not having to stress about the financial aspect of treatment. The facility is co-ed so for some this might cause a distraction. Hope Ministries was a life changing part of my life. After a 13 year addiction to methamphetamine and 3 trips to prison I found myself in jail yet one more time. After posting bond I knew I had to do something with my life and at the age of 32 I knew it was now or never. I moved into Hope not exactly sure what to expect. Each day began with the support and encouragement of a community that felt welcoming from day one. The Grace that Hope extends to you is like that God. Your mistakes are viewed as learning tools not set backs and used to grow upon not condemned you for. Within my addiction my parents had been given guardianship of my now 12 year old son.Our reunion was guided by the staff at Hope and our relationship grew from there. Hope isn't a short term program that tosses you out after you complete the core classes instead you can reside at Hope for a duration of 2 years which allows you to truly transform yourself as you prepare to re-enter society. Hope Ministries is also a non-profit organisation and their services are free of charge which removes the financial stress that a rehabilitation program often adds to your life.
