Our goal at Changing Tides is to provide hope and coping skills for those struggling with the complexities of life. Our desire is to aid individuals in making the CHANGE necessary to restore their lives. Beneath the suffering is the ability for each person to experience serenity. We are committed to helping our clients achieve that experience through individual, group, and family therapy, psychoeducation, peer support, and an emphasis on structure. ABOUT CHANGING TIDES
Located in Kitty Hawk, N.C., Changing Tides is a treatment center that offers intensive outpatient programs, outpatient programs, and sober living environments to individuals struggling with addiction. The center doesn’t offer detox and client must be 18 to enter treatment. It is one of 206 (about 42 percent) of intensive outpatient programs in North Carolina.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
According to Changing Tides’ website, treatment typically begins with a screening and assessment. Clients must be at least 18 years old, submit a background check, enter willingly, and be detoxed to enter treatment.
Therapy is the main focus of the treatment program, and the center offers individual therapy, group therapy, and family therapy, educational therapies, and experiential therapy.
Group therapy is an essential component to recovery, and includes sharing information and experiences with others, learning how to avoid engaging in relapse behaviors, and learning healthy behaviors. Group therapy is also designed to reduce stress, guilt, and pain while boosting confidence and self-esteem.
During individual therapy, clients discuss goals and create individualized treatment plans with therapists. Family therapy is also available and family is allowed to attend workshops along with therapy sessions. Psycho-educational therapy is designed to help clients and their loved ones learn more about addiction, its symptoms, and how to treat it.
Experiential therapy involves actions, movements, and activities. Some examples include recreational, expressive art, music, wilderness, adventure, and psychodrama therapy. Along with therapy, clients learn life skills and are monitored through random drug screenings.

“Great save living environment to get sober, continue your recovery and live in a sober community,” an alum wrote in a representative review.
To date, the two people to leave Google Reviews for Changing Tides gave mixed feedback.[1] One reviewer gave five out of five stars and noted they appreciate their honest approach to their programs. The other individual gave one star, but provided no commentary.

According to Changing Tides’ website, it accepts insurance plans, which only about 60 percent of all treatment facilities in North Carolina accept.
