Gateway Foundation— Aurora

Gateway Foundation— Aurora Aurora Illinois

Since 1968, our organization has been dedicated to helping clients reclaim their lives and achieve sobriety, free from drug use and symptoms of mental illness. Our goal is to support individuals in leading productive, socially responsible, and healthy lives. Gateway Foundation is the largest nonprofit treatment provider in the United States, specializing in substance use disorders for men, women, adolescents, and clients with co-occurring mental health disorders. Our team of professional clinicians assists over 6000 individuals daily in successfully completing treatment. We develop personalized plans to address the underlying causes of substance use disorder, not just the addiction itself.

ABOUT GATEWAY FOUNDATION – AURORA

Gateway Foundation operates 13 substance abuse treatment centers, including the Aurora facility, located 40 miles west of Chicago. Situated on the campus of the Presence Mercy Medical Center, our facility offers a range of programs for individuals struggling with chemical dependency and co-occurring mental health disorders. Our treatment options include short-term residential and partial hospitalization programs for adults, as well as intensive outpatient programs for both adults and adolescents. We also provide medication-assisted treatment to alleviate withdrawal symptoms and offer detoxification support when needed.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Clients undergo an initial assessment to determine the most suitable level of care. Those requiring intensive treatment may be admitted to our residential program, available in co-ed and all-male settings. Medication, such as Suboxone and Vivitrol, may be prescribed to manage withdrawal symptoms. Most inpatient clients stay on-site for a duration of two to four weeks, during which they participate in individual, group, and family counseling. Our residents also receive 12-step education and engage in recreational and team-building activities. After completing the program, graduates are eligible for our aftercare program, which involves weekly group counseling sessions and 12-step meetings. Clients with strong support systems and stable living environments may opt for our PHP or IOP programs, which offer similar programming with greater flexibility and a lower cost. The majority of outpatient clients remain in treatment for up to six weeks.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Gateway Foundation boasts a multidisciplinary treatment team consisting of psychiatrists, physicians, registered nurses, and licensed professional counselors.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Our Aurora facility is a modern, single-story building that accommodates residential clients in double-occupancy bedrooms furnished with twin beds, simple furniture, and work stations. Residents have access to 24-hour medical attention and dine in a cafeteria-style dining hall. The facility also offers spacious communal areas with televisions, and residents can enjoy the sprawling lawns surrounding the facility.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

Feedback from alumni of our program has been mixed. Some alumni indicated satisfaction and awarded our program five out of five stars for its effectiveness. However, one individual noted that our treatment failed to adequately address their Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and another mentioned experiencing “too much drama.” Another reviewer gave our program only two stars and subsequently pursued treatment elsewhere.

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

Two loved ones polled reported that their family members experienced relapses. One individual expressed disapproval of the staff’s treatment of residents and voiced concern about the co-ed program. They felt that our organization should offer greater family support and involvement. The other respondent mentioned billing issues in addition to their loved one’s relapse.

FINANCING

Gateway accepts most private insurance plans, including Aetna, Cigna, Multiplan, and others. For individuals without insurance, there may be options for state funding through the Illinois Department of Human Services.

Gateway Foundation— Aurora Reviews

I was in HPH program December of 17. Today I am sober for years. Thanks to Gateway!
My friend went here and relapsed the day he got out. Another friend is showing no signs of improvement. The counselors berate them and the coed program is a bad idea. wish they were more supportive and offered more family support and involvement.
This treatment center did nothing for my brother . He lost his life last year and these people are still billing him. I'm not looking for sympathy. What I want is for you to take the dirt out of my brothers name and instead pay our family for not helping him. Those letters that you keep sending to my parents house need to stop .Official Facility Response:I am so sorry for you loss. We want to help everyone achieve and sustain recovery but recognize the disease of addiction can be difficult to overcome. With that being said I would be happy to speak with you in a attempt to resolve these payment concerns. Please feel free to reach out to me by email so I can assist you in resolving this matter. Again my sincerest apologies for your experience here and your loss.
Sorry I spent 18 days at Gateway before moving on to a "Class"" facility.
It was a great place and works if you work it. It was very structured but there was too much drama."
