ABOUT WILLOW CREEK
Willow Creek Community Church is a multi-site church with eight different locations in and around Chicago, Ill. Willow Creek of Huntley runs a small weekly recovery group, entitled RECOVER, for individuals seeking to improve their relationships and work on personal areas of improvement, including substance use concerns and difficulties related to process addictions, such as food or sex.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
The weekly recovery group at Willow Creek of Huntley meets Thursday evenings from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. These weekly meetings are delivered in two parts: a large-group time and small-group time. According to its website, no registration is required to attend the groups, which are open to all individuals, regardless of faith or church affiliation.
The first of these, a large 30-minute group, focuses on the 12-step model of recovery. Typically, the large group is facilitated by a RECOVERY member, who details the values and principles of 12-Step.
During the next hour, clients branch off into smaller groups. In these more intimate settings, individuals share their experience and learn from the experience of others struggling with substance use and addictions to food, gambling, pornography, sex, and social media.
Other common issues explored include boundary setting, finding one’s voice, and emotional management. Willow Creek produces its own curriculum, rooted in the Christian faith and 12-step principles. Clients may be required to complete assignments of the curriculum. According to the facility’s website, each small group follows four progressive modules, which the individual can complete at their own pace.
