ABOUT KPEP
Located in Kalamazoo, Michigan and established in 1980, KPEP is a social services program that offers community corrective services as an alternative to incarceration. KPEP provides one of the 89 (18.6 percent) residential treatment programs in the state, along with outpatient-based programs and transitional housing services for clients struggling with chemical dependency. However, detox services are not available on-site.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
KPEP’s programming combines a work-therapy model with evidence-based modalities. In the residential program, clients are individually assessed and provided with a customized treatment plan. They receive case management services and are required to complete 60 hours of community service as part of their residential treatment.
The residential program lasts for 90 days and includes employability skills improvement, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and GED classes (if requested). Outpatient programming consists of a domiciliary intensive outpatient (IOP) program lasting 30-90 days, which involves daily CBT programming. Specialized group counseling for young clients, sex offenders, and individuals with anger management issues is also available. In both programs, clients are assessed for behavioral deficiencies and treated with CBT-oriented treatments. Services also include drug court and transitional housing.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
KPEP employs therapists, a limited license psychologist, counselors, group facilitators, and support staff, among others. The program director has approximately 25 years of experience in community corrections program management. In Michigan, 97.1 percent of all substance abuse treatment centers have higher education requirements for their staff. A survey respondent on Best-rehabs.com gave the staff’s level of training and experience a five-star rating.
