Hope Center Ministries – Waverly Men’s Center

Hope Center Ministries - Waverly Men's Center Waverly Tennessee

The purpose of Hope Center Ministries is to provide men and women with the opportunity to overcome their drug and alcohol addiction through the transforming power and love of Jesus Christ. Our program is designed to show these individuals how to find peace and lasting freedom from their addictions through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

ABOUT HOPE CENTER MINISTRIES — WAVERLY MEN’S CENTER

In rural northwestern Tennessee, seven miles outside the small town of Waverly, Hope Center Ministries (HCM) offers long-term, faith-based residential rehab for men struggling with substance use disorder. The Waverly center is one of eight substance abuse treatment facilities operated by the ministry in the U.S.

Residents may continue to take certain prescription and over-the-counter medications during treatment, subject to staff approval.

TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT

Treatment is built around the Christian 12-step program Celebrate Recovery. The program is long-term, with a minimum duration of eight months, split into three phases. It should be noted that though the program is designed to be completed in eight months, occasionally circumstances prolong an individual’s stay.

Phase One lasts six weeks, and involves individual and group study of the steps, intensive classroom time and bible studies, and work therapy activities. In Phase Two, which lasts 20 weeks, clients hold full-time jobs, while continuing to put God and their recovery first. Any wages collected from work are put toward costs operating HCM’s program. In Phase Three, which lasts a minimum of eight weeks, clients move out of the facility and back into the community, while continuing to attend meetings and church services and taking random drug tests.

If a client who has successfully completed the program suffers a relapse, they may return for a free 45-day “reconnection program,” designed to help them reconnect to both Christ and their recovery. Loved ones have opportunities to engage in their clients’ recovery process on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

STAFF CREDENTIALS

Hope Center Ministries was founded by a pastor with a history of drug abuse and addiction. The Waverly Men’s Center is managed by a former resident who worked up through the ranks to counselor and now director.

ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES

Clients may have only religious reading materials and music, and all books and music must be approved by staff. During the first 30 days of treatment, contact with the outside world is limited, and clients may not call home, though mail is allowed. All mail must be opened in the presence of a staff member. If loved ones participate in Sunday church services with clients, may receive a three-hour extension on Sunday visitation times.

WHAT ALUMNI SAY

All three of the alumni polled by Best-rehabs.com to date gave the center five out of five stars for the overall effectiveness of HCM’s program. Of these three alumni, the two polled on the facility’s performance in a variety of areas each gave it five stars for the overall quality of its group counseling and the level of support received from its staff. However, both reviewers declined to rate the center’s holistic options, perhaps indicating that these did not form a significant part of the program. In their comments, the reviewers unanimously noted that the center helped them to build relationships with Jesus Christ, and one reviewer seemed to praise the structure afforded by the program, writing: “Gave me a program too work in recovery.”

On Google to date, single reviewer Jennifer left a perfect five-star rating, while reviewer Angela rated the facility only one star, writing: “Horrible!!”

WHAT FRIENDS & FAMILY SAY

In stark contrast with the opinions of alumni, the single loved one polled by Best-rehabs.com to date would not recommend this facility. “Was not as helpful as hoped, learned more about the facility after he left. More about financing than treatment or ministry,” the anonymous reviewer wrote. They rated the center two out of five stars for the quality of its mental health treatment, four stars for the quality of its addiction treatment, and just one star for its holistic offerings.

WHAT STAFF SAY

A former lead counselor from Hope Center Ministries’ location in Pegram, Tenn., wrote in a four-star review on Indeed.com to date: “This job has taught me an abundance about people, organizations, discipline, and business administration.”

FINANCING

Treatment costs $700 per month, and the center does not accept insurance.

Hope Center Ministries – Waverly Men’s Center Reviews

My husband attended this facility. Between the program and church, he was drawn into a relationship with Jesus. While no place is perfect all the time, our family was pleased with his overall treatment there. Unfortunately, he was not allowed to complete the program, although his sobriety and relationship with God were both intact. I believe it was because of a personality/character clash between him and his counselor. My husband said some of the other counselors were at the house everyday checking in on their clients and supporting them, many more times than were required. His counselor, however, met with him only a handful (3-5) of times in the time he was there, which is much, much less than required. He even reached out to his counselor for help and was refused that help. He still maintains that the overall program was excellent. I guess the quality of care you receive, how invested they are in helping you obtain sobriety, depends on which counselor you are paired with.

  • My son went through the program twice. They provided him with everything he needed to live a life free of addiction. I don't know how any program could do more that the Hope Center did for my son. I will be forever in their debt.
