ABOUT BOWEN CENTER – COLUMBIA CITY
Bowen Center is a nonprofit mental health care and substance abuse treatment organization with a dozen locations throughout northeast Indiana, including in Huntington. Clients include those struggling with ADHD, eating disorders, and an array of addictions such as gambling and drugs and alcohol. The Columbia City facility in Whitley County offers outpatient treatment for adult men and women. Detoxification services are available at Bowen Center’s inpatient unit, located in Warsaw, Indiana, about 20 miles away.
TREATMENT & ASSESSMENT
According to the facility’s website, the Columbia City facility provides psychological testing and medication management as well as outpatient treatment for clients who have received a dual diagnosis of chemical dependency and mental health disorders.
Treatment at Bowen Center is strength-based, trauma-informed, solution-focused, and evidence-based. A variety of therapeutic modalities are employed, including the Matrix Model, Seeking Safety, Moral Reconation Therapy for clients in the criminal justice system, hypnosis, biofeedback, and workshops for anxiety and stress management. An employee assistance program, social skills training, and community education sessions are also offered.
According to CiteHealth, specialized programs for women and adolescents as well as assistance for clients who speak Spanish or are hearing impaired.
STAFF CREDENTIALS
The treatment team is comprised of psychiatrists, nurses, psychologists, social workers, licensed therapists, and chemical dependency counselors, including dozens of staff members with master’s and doctorate degrees.
ACCOMMODATIONS & AMENITIES
The Columbia City facility is located on a commercial street in a small town. Services are available five days a week, with early evening hours of operation on four days.

To date, Best-rehabs.com received one survey response from one alum who highly recommend the Columbia City facility. They rated it a perfect five stars in nine metrics measured, including the effectiveness of treatment, the level of staff training and experience, counseling options, and the cleanliness of the facility. The anonymous alum wrote that while staff were not always on time, they were nice and treatment at Bowen Center was helpful. The program’s affordability and value also received five-star ratings.
The sole Google review of the Columbia City facility also had a perfect five-star rating and the reviewer described the the staff as helpful and the therapy as “great.”
WHAT STAFF SAY
Of five current and former employees on Glassdoor to date, three rated the Columbia City facility four and five out of five stars while two others rated it only one star, suggesting polarized reviews. Employees were split on how stressful the environment was. One employee working there as of August 2017 wrote in a positive review: “A great place to work if you like helping others.”
FINANCING
According to the facility’s website, financial assistance and charity care are available to clients who qualify. CiteHealth and HealthGrove both indicate that access to recovery vouchers, Medicaid, and Medicare are also accepted.
